The annual event held at Earls Court in London, saw many more people attending the event than last years.. Over 3000 people filled the venue each day.

Also probably the least geekiest web event to attend in the web industry calendar.

I attended on the wednesday, when I saw the following presentations:

Times Online Relaunch

Monday, February 12th, 2007

So the Times Online redesign went live last week.

It was an exciting project to work on, I was based in Canary Wharf working with 2 other developers, 4 Information Architects, 3 Designers, a Content Management team, and countless management types.

I was involved at a early stage in the project life cycle in August 2006. My role was to take the illustrator designs and code them into templates showing the individual modules for each element in the design. Of course, validating and browser testing went along side this. And each module was given a timescale score depending on its complexity.

I was with the team for a month during which time I completed the front end build for all the main sections of the site: news, sport, fashion, motoring.. The job became quicker once the initial elements were built as they could be reused in other sections of the sites pages.

Is Your Copy Trusted by Google?

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

It’s a forever changing job being a SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) copywriter, regarding the changing algorithms and indexing techniques by the major search engines.

The information in this post can help your copywriting become a trusted source for Google and potentially aid in increasing your rankings. Google uses many factors to determine the relevance and trustworthiness of copy. These are just a few.

Most newcomers to copywriting start by reading the blog posts of Matt Cutts began to explain that Google uses many factors (other than PageRank) to evaluate and rank pages. Matt continues to describe the use of keywords and their relationships to other page factors.

For instance, let’s say one keyphrase you’re working with in your copy is “flat monitor.” Keyphrases work best when all the words remain in their exact order. That is, when you use the entire phrase “flat monitor” as opposed to using only the single words “flat” and “monitor” individually. Matt confirms this by saying relevance and trust might be increased in Google’s eyes when the words “flat” and “monitor” are used next to each other.

Why would it matter? cont’d..

All you have to do is register at the Amazon Associates General site. Choose “a-store”, select the colours, text and books, then you are given a link to put on your site. All the hosting for the A-store is done by Amazon.
